Lights, camera, design! From the realm of cinematic imagination, inspiration is born, translating into the world of reality through interior design and decorative items that evoke iconic films. Join QoQoon on a journey through the art of set design, which can be translated into the art of creating living spaces and environments as dramatic as if they were taken from the scenes of your favourite movies.

1. Rear Window: From Alfred Hitchcock’s 1951 classic film about a photographer confined to a wheelchair in an apartment building, who passes his days by observing the lives of people across the way. From the massive set in Paramount Studios where the entire film was shot, to the old building full of stories from the past of The Mustang Blu, we reinterpret and convey it once again through the hotel’s interior design and the Ossie Chair, a soul camel leather wing chair that combines classic and contemporary styles with deep buttoning details from Alexander & James.
2. The world of men and mobsters in The Godfather: A battle between darkness and light, reflected in the opulent set design. Experience the lavish excess of the modern Italian-American mafia through interiors featuring contemporary leather furniture, rich dark woods, and dramatic lighting. Like The Wine Merchant Thonglor -this style evokes a sense of refined power, complete with the glint of hand-cut crystal from Zwiesel Glas’ Hommage Comète by Charles Schumann and sleek stainless steel trays from Alessi
3. James Bond: Illuminate your space with the same refined taste as 007 himself with the Guns – Bedside Gun by Philippe Starck. Crafted from die-cast aluminum with an overmolded polymer coating, the lamp’s body is available in gloss 18K gold. The matte black plasticized paper shade features a gold or grey interior, and an electronic dimmer allows for adjustable brightness.
4. In the Mood For Love: Wong Kar-wai’s iconic film captures the beauty and atmosphere of 1960s Hong Kong in a melancholic setting through a unique dark colour palette. Patterns and colours convey Chinese identity and Kitsh details in cramped, uncomfortable spaces, blending into a unique beauty and atmosphere of melancholy, yet beautiful in its own way. Like the various corners of old china town-Yaowarat, which go well with Choei stool which bring the plastic stool we are familiar with to redesign, including Cherng Tray, a table made from a familiar-looking coated zinc tray with ceramic baluster table legs and stainless steel base, all from Rumba Bor, while the blue & white ceramic tea container from Thaniya 1988.
5. The Colourful World of Wes Anderson: Every time we step into The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakorn, we can’t help but think of scenes from Wes Anderson’s films. A director with a unique visual style in set design and cinematography full of colour, just like The Palor, including various home decor items from Thai designers, such as lobster and coral cushions in pastel colours from Swoon Space, printed melamine cups and saucers, wooden lamps with pastel checkered patterns, all available at The Standard Shop.
6. Alice In Wonderland: Imagine a twisted world of optical illusions, whimsical patterns, vibrant colours and surreal designs, as if you’ve fallen into a mad tea party with the Red Queen in Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland. The interior of Tease at The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakorn feels just like that, further enhanced by a set of surreal patterned ceramic tea sets and Bacio Vase from Fornasetti, available at Seasons of Living.
7. Let Marie Antoinette Eats Cake: One of the memorable scenes from Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette is the cake scene, where the famous director’s daughter, Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather), adds a sweet fantasy to the classic phrase. When talking about this movie, no one can help but think of the sweet pastel pink cake with ruffled cream layers like the Palace of Versailles, which Bake Ministry helped us create, matched with Seletti’s ceramic bakery set, available at @Home.
8. Back To The Future: Travel back to the totally rad 80s at Mickey’s Diner. With retro booths and vibrant colurs that evoke nostalgia, this American diner is a time capsule straight out of the iconic film “Back to the Future”, ready to transport you to Marty McFly’s world of 80s teen vibes. 9. The Notting Hill Bookshop: The Travel Book Company is the name of Hugh Grant’s bookstore in the movie Notting Hill, which happens to be similar to a small bookstore in an old house in Bangkok called World at The Corner. This bookstore has a collection of books and travel souvenirs from the owner’s personal trips, as well as carefully selected books in the art, literature, and other lifestyle categories. QoQoon has subtly placed designs like the Serratura bookmark by Fornasetti and the Stone Book from Seasons of Living on the bookshelves. Let’s see if Anna Scott can find them!
10. From Planet of the Apes To Space Odyssey: A crazy and crafty Monkey lamps from Seletti have a strong theatrical impact in which art, design and the world of nature creating an unusual home decor item. Every time seeing it makes you think of famous movies like Planet of the Apes, and even the ending scene of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, which is considered an iconic design film.
